A veteran of 1756 National Hockey League contests over the course of a career that spanned a total of twenty-five (25) seasons, Mark Messier would win a total of six (6) Stanley Cup's and be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007. The last active player to have played in the rival league of the World Hockey Association and also the last active player to have suited up during the 1970s, Messier would play in a total of sixteen (16) NHL All-Star Games during his time spent in the league. Offered here, we present this stick attributed to have been used by Messier at the 1991 NHL All-Star Game in Chicago that has been signed by the likes of Brett and Bobby Hull as well as Wayne Gretzky and Messier. A Louisville TPS stick with "Messier" stamped to the upper shaft, the stick retains its trio of mostly intact foil accent stickers over the length of the shaft while the original black tape is still wrapped around the shaved handle/knob. Having had the blade tape removed and the graphics over the forehand side of the shaft sanded off, the shaft and blade on the forehand side have been signed by the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Hull, Brett Hull and Messier with Bobby and Mark dating the signatures with a "1991" and all but Gretzky adding inscriptions, all four (4) signatures have been penned in black marker ink and display well despite their age, showing just light fading overall. In terms of game-wear, the stick shows a handful of marks and abrasions throughout the length of the shaft, lower shaft, heel and blade with light wear also observed over the edge of the toe as well, plus the bottom edge of the blade. Having had a pair of holes drilled through the shaft for the purpose of mounting, the stick was originally gifted to former NHLer Mike Walton and was on display at his bar/restaurant. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
