Perhaps larger than life and enjoying a short playing career in Major League Baseball with the New York Mets, winning a World Series with the club in 1986, John Gibbons has gone on to enjoy a life at all levels of professional baseball after his playing career, beginning in 1990 as a roving instructor with the Mets and culminating with two (2) separate stints as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays from 2004-08 and 2013-18. Currently serving as a bench coach for the Mets, offered here is this jersey worn by Gibbons during the 2003 season while serving as Toronto's bench coach. A button down style offering made by Majestic Athletic, an "Authentic Collection"/brand jock tag is sewn over the front left tail that also sports a size "48" fly tag underneath it while a material swatch with "58 03 S1" embroidered into it has been added over the inner collar. Sporting an MLB logo patch over the reverse neckline and decorated over the front with "Toronto" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill letters that have been sewn on in a gentle arch, blue accent pipping goes down both sides of the placket and around the back of the collar while a Blue Jays logo patch has been sewn on over the left sleeve above an embroidered Majestic logo. Accented over the front and verso with Gibby's number "58" in numerals matching the letters spelling out "Toronto" on the front, "Gibbons" has been spelt out, also in matching style letters, that have been sewn directly to the material of the jersey at the top of the reverse, once again in a very gentle arch. Remaining in overall excellent condition with only light signs of use including light fabric rubbing, some loose threads and a board burn like spot over the right side of the lower reverse.
Additionally, also included with the jersey is a locker room nameplate used by Gibbons during the 2015 season, specifically on April 15th against the Tampa Bay Rays, a 12-7 win at Rogers Centre. Measuring 24" x 3", the plate, made of a thin plastic, sports an image of Rogers Centre at the left side and a Blue Jays logo over the right side with "5" and "John Gibbons" spelt out in white letters over the middle. Blank on the reverse, an MLB hologram has been affixed to the bottom right while Gibbons has signed between his number and name with a silver marker ink signature that displays without issue. Also inscribed with "Make Canada Great Again" in matching silver ink alongside the autograph, the plate remains in good condition overall with a few marks over both sides, heavier over the back.
