Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Once again battling our nation's greatest rivals, Team Canada would play the Soviets in another eight game series in 1974, with the first four games in Canada, followed by the final four in Russia. Stocked with WHA players, three games would end in ties, with the powerful Soviets winning the other four out of five. This medal from the historic series was presented to Minnesota Fighting Saints centreman Mike Walton, who saw action in six of the eight games. At 2 1/2" in diameter, a hockey player graces the front in relief with a signature from the artist, while the reverse is engraved "1974 WHA Mike Walton – Team Canada vs Team Russia". Inscribed at the bottom is "F.P. 1990". The original attached red and white ribbon is intact. The medal exhibits some minor surface wear, especially across the engraved text. Any items from the 1972 and 1974 Summit Series tournaments are highly collected.
