Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
Skating to a regular season record of 26–29–15 to finish fourth (4) in the National Hockey League and squeak into the playoffs ahead of the Boston Bruins, the 1959-60 edition of the Detroit Red Wings would be lead statistically by Gordie Howe, who paced the squad in goals, assists and points while Terry Sawchuk handled the bulk of the goaltending duties. Offered here, we present this team-signed stick that has been signed approximately twenty (20) members of the 1959-60 Red Wings. A Hespeler made "Mic Mac" model stick that measures roughly 52 1/2" in length, brand and model stamps appear over both sides of the shaft while "Right 5" has also been stamped to the upper shaft. With red and blue accent stripes over the lower shaft, the stick displays with a vintage white tape job around the knob and blade. Signed by twenty (20) members of that season's Detroit squad over one side of the shaft in thin black marker, those that have signed the stick include deceased HHOF inductees Gordie Howe and Marcel Pronovost as well as HHOF inductee Alex Delvecchio along with Wilson, Riggin, Oliver, Smith, Lunde, McKenzie, Fonteyne, Melnyk, Morrison, Godfrey, Haley, Haddon, Aldcorn, Cullen and Reaume plus two (2) that could not be identified. With all the signatures vivid and displaying well for the most part, some show some light smudging that is worth mentioning for accuracy.
