Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Hailing from a season in which the Montreal Canadiens would win their fourth of five straight Stanley Cup championships from 1956-60, up for grabs here is this near-complete assembly of Parkhurst’s 1958-59 release that includes forty-seven (47) of the fifty (50) cards found within the checklist, which features classic Original Six star power from both of the NHL’s Canadian franchises. Missing the cards of just 27-Olmstead, 32-Bonin and 34-Beliveau for completion, the set is paced by a group of fourteen (14) notable cards, including those of 33-Mahovlich (multiple light creases and edge/corner wear), 38-M. Richard (a pair of light creases plus edge/corner wear and dings), 2-H. Richard (staining over the reverse, heavy toning and edge/corner wear), 48-Armstrong (light creases plus edge and corner wear), 46-Bower (off-center, multiple light creases and edge/corner wear), 42-Horton (creases, edge/corner wear and heavy staining on the reverse), 49-Harvey (creases, edge/corner wear and heavy staining on the reverse), 28-Geoffrion (multiple light creases and spotting on the front), 16-Backstrom RC (toning, multiple light creases and staining on the reverse), 22-Plante (off-center, multiple creases and staining on the reverse), 11-An Object of Interest (creases and edge/corner wear), 21-All Eyes on the Puck (light creases, edge/corner wear and a couple of light spots on the reverse), 26-Plante Catches a Shot (multiple light creases, edge/corner wear and a blue print line at the left side) and 35-Canadiens On Guard (very faint light crease and edge/corner wear). For the rest of the set, the cards are all found to be in a low-grade condition state overall with many in the range of POOR but going as high as VG in some instances, with majority of the cards displaying creases and wear to their corners in addition to other things. Of note, card #29 of Dick Duff has damage to its reverse that is worth noting for accuracy.
