Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Inducted into the hallowed halls of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, offered here is pair of Howe autograph and/or memorabilia cards from Upper Deck's 2004-05 Series One and 2005-06 SP Authentic releases. Starting with the earlier of the two (2) cards, an "Autographed UD Game Jersey" offering that is serial numbered "01/25" near the top right corner, a red tonal image of Howe during his playing days appears at the top of the card while a swatch of white dureen cut from a jersey worn by Howe has been embedded into the front of the card. Further enhanced by an affixed foil sticker signed by Howe at the bottom of the card on the front, the autograph has been penned by him in blue marker ink that displays without issue, with Howe also having added his famed "Mr. Hockey" moniker underneath which appears in matching condition. For the second card, a "Marks of Distinction" example that appears to have a marble pattern on the front, an image of Howe appears over the middle while the serial number "03/25" is found at the bottom left corner. Signed by Howe with an on card autograph in blue marker ink that displays without issue, once again Howe's "Mr. Hockey" inscription is included underneath in matching ink and condition. Both in excellent condition overall and remaining in their original raw ungraded state, light edge and corner wear is observed that is worth mentioning for accuracy.
