Playing a season of junior hockey with the Bellingham Blazers before heading south of the border to join the University of Denver Pioneers of the NCAA in 1978-79, Glenn Anderson would play a lone season with the Canadian National Team program in 1979-80 and be drafted 69th overall at the 1979 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. Joining the Oilers for the 1980-81 season and going on to play in a total of 1129 National Hockey League games with the likes of Edmonton, Toronto, New York and St. Louis, Anderson would win a total of six (6) Stanley Cup championships and play in four (4) NHL All-Star Games. Winning gold with Team Canada at both the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cup tournaments, Anderson had his number "9" retired by the Oilers in 2009 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008. Offered here, we present this photo-matched Oilers jersey worn by Anderson during his rookie season of 1980-81.
A knit construction offering made by Sandow SK, a style worn by the Oilers during the first part of the season before set two (2) sweaters made of heavyweight mesh were utilized, a faded/washed out brand label displaying an "Extra Large" designation and brand logo is affixed to the inner collar, with the jersey itself measuring out to roughly a modern size "50" for its effort. Having had a "Sandow SK" logo screened on over the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a sewn on Oilers team crest that features embroidered details while the sleeves and verso have been accented with Anderson's number "9" in dual layer blue-over-orange tackle twill numerals. Having had "Anderson" spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate across the top of the reverse, the garment shows excellent game-wear overall via stick marks over the front and both sleeves while a team repair is observed in between the "E" and "R" of the team crest. Sporting the all-important Alberta 75th anniversary patch atop of the right shoulder, both sleeves also show numerous board burns and slash marks, additional marks of a similar variety are present over the lower front and reverse as well. Also showing pilling throughout the interior and exterior of the garment, Anderson has signed over the reverse with a large blue marker ink signature that displays without issue.
Accompanied by a MeiGray LOA and COR, the jersey is photo-matched with Getty Image #1204328807 (October 28th, 1980 vs Toronto) to the placement of the "9" over the left sleeve as well as with additional included images from the season showing the now washed out stick marks over the front hem and under the bottom right of the team crest. Additionally, the images also show the correct placement of the "9" on the right sleeve and despite the graininess of the included images, the photo-matches are conclusive.
