Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Widely regarded as the best hockey player to ever live, Gordie Howe played an incredible 32 years of professional hockey in both the NHL and WHA, winning multiple championships in each league. A 21x All-Star, 6x Art Ross Trophy winner and 6x Hart Memorial Trophy winner as well as a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee in 1972, offered here is this pairing of cards featuring the signature of the man affectionately known as "Mr. Hockey". Released by the company as part of their wrapper redemption program at the 2003 and 2005 Toronto Sports Card Expos, the earlier of the two (2) included cards shows an image of a much older Howe at the top left over the front while the 2005 release shows him wearing the bright red sweater of the Detroit Red Wings in the early-1950s. Hand serial numbered "33/40" and "13/15" over the fronts in crisp blue marker ink, Howe has signed over the front of both cards in matching blue marker ink that displays without issue and has added his famed "Mr. Hockey" moniker underneath each as well, which shows in the same conditions as the autographs themselves. Both remaining in overall excellent condition, only very light touches of wear are observed over the edges and corners of both cards, slightly heavier on the earlier of the two (2) cards from 2003.
