Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
The 48th season of play for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League, the 1964-65 edition of the blue and white would see them fall in the first round of the playoffs to the Montreal Canadiens, ending their quest for a fourth (4th) straight Stanley Cup. Offered here, we present this stick signed by sixteen (16) members of the 1964-65 Maple Leafs. A generic "Practice" model wooden stick made by Hespeler that measures roughly 53" in length and has "Left" and "6" stamped to the upper shaft, the cellophane striping accent at the bottom of the shaft is missing, having long been lost to time. For the autographs, penned in a mix of blue ballpoint pen and pencil with the heaviest fading found on the signatures done in pencil, most remain quite legible despite this. Featuring the signatures of deceased Hall of Famers Dickie Moore, Red Kelly, Andy Bathgate, George Armstrong, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Terry Sawchuk, Johnny Bower and Punch Imlach as well as Dave Keon, Frank Mahovlich, Ron Stewart, Carl Brewer, Ron Ellis, Eddie Shack and Leafs assistant trainer, Tommy Naylor. The stick remains in excellent condition overall with a few marks present throughout from handling and age as well as some minor discolouration on the blade. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
