The record holder for the most goals in a season by a defensemen, Paul Coffey is second only to Ray Bourque for career goals, assists and points. Having registered a total of 1531 points during a career that saw him play in 1409 career games split between nine (9) different National Hockey League franchises, Coffey would win three (3) Norris Trophy's as the league's best defenceman and a quartet of Stanley Cup championships. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004, offered here is this jersey worn by Coffey as a member of the Penguins during the 1988-89 campaign. Made by CCM, a washed out Maska label is affixed to the inner collar while the jersey itself measures out to roughly a size "48". Having had the CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem as well as "Century Sports", then the Penguins customizer, the front of the Ultrafil material garment is decorated with a Penguins "gold toe" team crest that features embroidered details throughout. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Coffey's number "77" in dual layer black-over-yellow tackle twill numerals, "Coffey" is spelt out in single layer black twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate that runs shoulder-to-shoulder at the top of the back. Of note, the jersey can be distinguished as a second set offering based on the fact that jerseys from the first set of the 1988-89 season didnt use an embroidered team crest or twill names and numbers plus the fact that the nameplate is almost touching the back of the collar, something that was corrected for the first set of jerseys the following year. Displaying the distinguished alternate captain's "A" over the left breast, the jersey shows good game-wear via team repairs over both sleeves plus the right hip on the reverse and stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves. Additionally, light board burns are observed over both sleeves and there is pilling on the outside of the right elbow plus in both sleeves on the interior while the fight strap sports heavy rusting that is worthy of mention for accuracy as well as some minor spots and stains throughout.
