A product of the WCHL's Lethbridge Broncos who would be drafted 15th overall by the New York Islanders at the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft, Steve Tambellini would go on to play a total of 553 games in the National Hockey League over the course of his career with the likes of New York, Colorado, New Jersey, Calgary and Vancouver. Winning a Stanley Cup with the Islanders in 1980 and also having represented Team Canada on a trio of occasions, offered here is this Canucks jersey worn by Tambellini during the 1986-87 season. A CCM made offering with a partially detached Ultrafil label affixed to the inner collar, a fully affixed born-on date tag reading "85 07" is present underneath. Measuring out to roughly a size "48", an oversized CCM logo patch has been sewn on over top of the other tonal CCM emblem that has been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a Canucks team crest that features embroidered details throughout, the 1985-86 season "Expo 86" patch has been placed atop of the right breast along with a "City of Vancouver 100th Anniversary" over the right sleeve, with these patches possibly done by Scoffins, the team or another collector but overall the origin/reasoning of them is unknown. Having had Tambellini's number "20" sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual layer yellow-over-orange stacked tackle twill numerals, "Tambellini" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate across the top of the back. Still retaining its original fight strap on the interior, albeit with rusting and salt in the snaps, the jersey shows good game-wear with team repairs through the front crest and over/behind the left shoulder while light stick marks exist over the front, reverse and both sleeves. Also showing board paint transfers over the lower reverse and board burns over the sleeves, pilling is observed over the outside of both sleeves as well while a couple of small unrepaired cuts/holes from slash marks/board burns are found throughout also. Finally, good/heavy pilling is found on the interior of the jersey as well. Of note, it should be pointed out that the nameplate is an original though was removed and reattached at some point with the outline of its former placement observed over the upper back.
After further research and consultation, we have determined that the jersey is actually from the 1986-87 season and not 1985-86 as previously advertised due to the fact that during the 1986-87 season the numbers were placed farther away from the point of the shoulder yoke as we see on the jersey being offered while in 1985-86 they were placed closer together. Made to look as though it was originally from the 1985-86 season, possibly by Scoffins, the team or another collector, it also appears as though the left hip area displays very faint evidence of a once in place Rick Hansen patch that was worn during the 1986-87 season.
