Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
A product of the Ontario Hockey League's Kitchener Rangers who helped the franchise to a Memorial Cup championship in 2003, Mike Richard would continue his winning ways throughout the duration of his professional career after being selected 24th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2003. A veteran of 749 National Hockey League games who would win a Calder Cup in 2005 as well as a pair of Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014 with the Los Angeles Kings, Richards would also win World Junior Championship and Olympic gold medals with Team Canada in 2005 and 2010 respectively. Offered here, we present this stick used by Richards as a member of the Flyers during the 2005-06 season. A Nike Bauer Vapor XXX model with "Richards" factory graphics over the shaft, the stick retains its original black gripper over the handle/knob while the original blade tape has been removed to facilitate Richard's flowing silver marker ink signature that displays without issue over the forehand side. Of note, an inscription reading "To Christopher, All The Best!" has been added to the autograph in matching ink and condition. Showing evidence of its former taping over the blade, the stick shows game-use via a layer of now dried gripping agent over the shaft as well as a few marks and abrasions over the shaft, lower shaft, heel and blade. Of note, the stick appears to have been broken and then mended as a clear crack/break line is found at the bottom of the shaft.
