Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Currently the only Major League Baseball team to call Canada home, the Toronto Blue Jays have owned a place in the American League since 1977 and lay claim to having won two World Series championships over the course of their history, coming in back-to-back years of 1992 and 1993. Offered here, and sure to spark Blue Jays memories of yesteryear, is this Toronto Blue Jays batting helmet that dates to either the 1980s or 1990s and is attributed to have been worn by Willie Upshaw. A blue and white coloured offering with a Blue Jays logo decal over the front that is made by ABC (American Baseball Cap), a heavily worn brand label is found affixed to the interior that displays a size designation of "7 3/8". Missing some of the padding on the interior and made for a left handed batter based on the side the protective ear flap is on, the ABC logo is found over the lower reverse as well as a number "26" decal. Of note, while Upshaw wore the number "26" between 1978 and 1987, Jim Eppard also wore it for a brief period in 1990, the last left handed rostered player to play for the team before this design was dropped mid-season in 1993. Sporting heavy use to the interior and exterior via soiling, sweat staining, a cracked off part of the shell at the reverse, back interior padding is loose, chips and numerous marks plus abrasions, it should also be noted that the white front panel is yellowed from age and sun exposure.
