Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
With no introduction needed for hockey fans, Don Cherry spent over three decades as co-host of Coach’s Corner on Hockey Night in Canada, and is well known for his outspoken opinions and flamboyant outfits. Offered here, we present this shirt, tie and blazer combo were all worn by Grapes in 2016 during "Coaches Corner" on Hockey Night in Canada and done in bespoke style to his measurements. Called "Clouds" by Don himself and originating directly from his closet, the jacket, a black and white double breasted piece with a red lining that shows black and white polka dots, features a pair of pockets on the interior as well as a Johnny Corallo label sewn inside the left side. Retaining all its original buttons and signed by Cherry on the interior with a blue marker ink signature, a white handkerchief sits inside the left breast pocket while a white rose is pinned to the lapel. Also including Cherry's monogramed French cuff dress shirt made by the original Royal Shirt Company, a brand label with penned notations appears over the inner collar along with "D" and "C" while "DC" is stitched into the left cuff. Including Cherry's cufflinks and signed by him with a blue marker ink signature over the left cuff as well as front left breast pocket, the final piece of the ensemble is Don's blue and white polka dot silk tie by Gold City that he has signed on the back with a silver marker ink autograph. With all the pieces remaining in good condition, it is worth noting that some spot stains are observed over the jacket and tie as well as in collar of the dress shirt, which is also missing a button at the bottom and has some discoloration in the armpits. Additionally, the grouping includes black plastic hanger signed Cherry with a silver marker ink signature that displays without issue while everything comes housed in a simple black garment bag.
