Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Released in a year that saw the Ottawa Rough Riders defeat the Calgary Stampeders 24-21 to claim the 1968 Grey Cup at CNE Stadium in Toronto, up for grabs here is this complete 132-card set of O-Pee-Chee’s 1968 CFL release that includes all of the rare short print specimens. An overall higher grade assembly with the average condition range seen as being in the scope of EX-MT throughout, some of the exceptions worth making note of include those of cards #'d 29, 62 and 94, all of which have "M.G." penned in ink over the reverses, #'s 104 and 112, both of which have tiny black spots on their reverses and card #91, which has a heavy scratch on the front. For the key cards found in the set, included are those of 17-Jackson (EX-MT to NM - slight fuzz at the bottom right corner), 44-Coffey (EX-MT - tiny ding at the bottom right corner), 46-Mosca (EX-MT to NM), 51-Zugar (EX-MT - small wax stain at the left border), 55-Henley (EX-MT to NM - off-center and a slight diamond cut), 60-Ramey RC (EX to EX-MT - light corner wear), 66-Pitts (EX to EX-MT), 78-Evanshen RC (EX-MT to NM - off-center and diamond cut), 86-Reed (EX-MT to NM - off-center 80-20), 87-Lancaster (EX-MT - off-center on top with slight wear at the top border), 101-McQuarters RC (VG to VG-EX - light creasing), 120-Young RC (EX-MT to NM - very tiny wear at the top right) and 132-Checklist (EX to EX-MT - boxes are unmarked but pencil "tick" marks appear over the back at the right side). Sure to be a great trip down memory lane for our winning bidder to when football was much more hard-nosed than it is now.
