Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Managed by HOFer and New York Yankees dynasty builder Ed Barrow, the Toronto Royals finished in second place in the Eastern League in 1901, with a number of noteworthy players later seeing action in the bigs including Nick Altrock, George Browne, Lew Ritter, Charlie Carr, Frank Bonner, Patsy Flaherty and others. This lot offers a rare trio of Royals scorecards from the 1901 season, for games vs Hartford, Montreal and Rochester. Simple fold-over affairs listing "Toronto Base Ball Club" on each cover and picturing a period batter with ring bat in quilted pants, heavy jersey and pillbox cap, all three have been scored to the interior in pencil, with the players for each club listed. The Montreal and Hartford scorecards show just light wear overall, while the Rochester scorecard is split in half, with both halves present. These are the first turn of the century Royals scorecards we have ever offered.
