Hailing from the Ottawa neighborhood shared by the residence of the Prime Minister, at 24 Sussex Drive, the Ottawa New Edinburghs were a senior team that played in numerous leagues in the early 1900s, such as the Ottawa City Hockey League and the Interprovincial Amateur Hockey Union. Serving as a farm club for the Ottawa Silver Seven - hence the nickname the "Ottawa Seconds", a number of notable HOFers passed through the New Edinburghs ranks including Eddie Gerrard, Punch Broadbent, Aurele Joliat and Lionel Hitchman. This original framed composite photo features the 1907-08 squad, including HOFers Eddie Gerrard and Alf Smith. At approx 18" x 22", the full squad and management are pictured in cameo images and the team proclaimed "Champions City Hockey League of Ottawa 1908", with a pair of elaborate trophies also featured. Shuttered by famous Ottawa photographer Pittaway, who took the majority of the Ottawa Senators photographs, the photo does show some minor wear to the matte that doesn't affect the image including some staining to the bottom left and a tear to the bottom right. Set in what appears to be the original frame which also shows wear, the photo is a gorgeous representation of early hockey photography featuring an historic club.
