Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Originally issued north of the 49th parallel, the 1922 V61 Neilson's Chocolate cards constitute one of the more popular Canadian candy card issues among American collectors since the cards are similar to the American Caramel E120 release, a favorite among hobbyists. Featuring a pair of versions to make note of, with those labeled as being "Type 1" featuring a card number over the lower front and the "Type 2" specimens on thicker card stock with no numbers on the front to speak of, offered here is this collection of cards from the 1922 Neilson's Chocolate release that totals out to sixty-two (62). Including a total of fifty-six (56) cards that fall into the category of "Type 1" and a group of six (6) "Type 2" examples, it is worth noting that all the included cards are technically low-grade examples with fifty-two (52) of the "Type 1" cards having been glued back-to-back onto a scrapbook page with remains of said page found in the middle of them while the remaining four (4) show back damage as well. Additionally, throughout the lot, common flaws include things such as creases, rounded/wear to corners, paper loss and toning. For the "Type 1" cards, included are the examples of Zach Wheat, Charlie Hollocher, Walter Schmidt and Joe Schultz, with those four (4) being the loose cards while the group of back-to-back glued offerings include notable specimens of players such as Rogers Hornsby, Rabbit Maranville, Frankie Frisch, Dave Bancroft, Grover Alexander, Eddie Roush, George Kelly and Max Carey among others while the "Type 2" cards include examples of J.T. Zachary, George Uhle, Gene Hargrave, Vern Clemons, Lee King and Fred "Cy" Williams.
