Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024

Marking the second time Canadian company Parkhurst had released a set of hockey cards, the 1952-53 assembly would have been considered a set up at the time being larger than the cards released the year prior and with full sized images of players with information gracing the reverse while the checklist held consistent at 105 cards, highlighted by the RC of a young defenseman by the name of Tim Horton. Presented here, we offer this complete set of Parkhurst's 1952-53 hockey release. Paced by a group of six (6) cards that have just been received back from grading by PSA, included in this group are the examples of 1-M. Richard (PSA GOOD 2), 10-Moore RC (PSA "Authentic Altered"), 51-Armstrong RC (PSA "Authentic Altered"), 58-Horton RC (PSA "Authentic Altered"), 86-Sawchuk (PSA "Authentic Altered") and 88-Howe (PSA "Authentic Altered"). For the rest of the set, all found in their original raw ungraded form, it needs to be mentioned for accuracy that numerous cards display with uneven cuts including obvious not-straight edges and/or diamond cuts. It is in our opinion that the cards making up the set were likely hastily cut from an uncut sheet or that someone was "asleep at the switch" during production. With various sizes of cards present throughout the set, often times they measure short or narrow or are oversized. As we cannot measure and inspect every individual card; some may "pass", but we'd have to say buyer beware as far as high grade grading hopes go. Including notables such as those of 3-Geoffrion ("Authentic Altered" - light corner wear), 14-Harvey ("Authentic Altered"), 21-Stanley (EX - tiny amount of discoloration at the bottom left corner), 53-Delvecchio ("Authentic Altered"), 67-Kelly ("Authentic Altered") and 87-Lindsay ("Authentic Altered") among many others, the set is still a lovely assembly of some desirable vintage cardboard!
