Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
On top of the hockey world with his unbelievable 212 points scored in 1981-82 including 92 goals, Wayne Gretzky kept kids ripping through wax packs to secure his cards the following season, with the offered 1982-83 O-Pee-Chee hockey card wax box thankfully escaping ravaging youthful hands. Containing 48 packs with 10 cards-per-pack, 480 possibly high-grade cards await, including the desirable cards of Gretzky along with the rookies for Grant Fuhr, Ron Francis and Dale Hawerchuk. Certified by BBCE and shrink-wrapped with their hologram and label affixed to the underside, the label states "1982/83 OPC Hockey Unopened Wax Box (Tape Intact)" with the still intact tape only adding to the allure the box carries. Exhibiting overall light-to-moderate wear, the display lid has been partially perforated and there is a tear to the collar at the right side as well. Also sporting some creasing and surface wear over the lid as well, similar spots of surface wear and/or small areas of paper loss are present over all four (4) sides. Additionally, there is some corner and edge wear observed as well and the bottom shows minor surface wear that is worthy of mention for accuracy. Showing the original purchase price of .25 cents over the lid, the box, a seldomly seen tape intact example, is a true gem with numerous opportunities and questions as whether or not to keep it sealed or bust it open awaiting our lucky winning bidder!
