An elected member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Ken Danby is known for his realistic studies, and he has served on the governing board of the Canada Council and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery of Canada. Arguably his most noteworthy work, we have a framed lithograph copy of “At the Crease” from 1972. Hailing from Phil Espostio's personal collection and presented to the 1984 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee by the NHLPA for the Christmas holiday of 1973, a generic goalie is expertly depicted, complete with period Northland stick and fiberglass goal mask. Displaying "At The Crease - Ken Danby 1972" at the bottom of the piece, along with paper slips displaying NHLPA logos as well as "National Hockey League Players' Association - Christmas 1973". Housed in a simple metal frame that measures out to full dimensions of 29” x 22”, the artwork shows toning while the frame shows light wear and signs of age. With the art inside measuring around 28 1/2" x 21 1/2", the backside of the frame shows some staining/foxing that is worth mentioning for accuracy. Hailing from Esposito's personal collection, his signed LOA will accompany the piece.
