Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

Originally drafted by the Blackhawks 199th overall in 1983, it would take seven years for Dominik Hasek to come over to North America and join the Chicago organization due to the Iron Curtain. In a system that already included Ed Belfour, Hasek would only play 25 games over two seasons in Chicago before being traded to Buffalo and blossoming into one of the NHL’s top goalies. The first European born goaltender to lead the NHL in GAA and earning considerable awards/accolades throughout his career, Hasek owns claim to the highest save percentage in league history as well as two (2) Stanley Cups, six (6) Vezina Trophy's and two (2) Hart Memorial Trophy's as well as a historic Olympic gold medal in 1998 with his native Team Czech Republic. Offered here, from the era of the early-to-mid-1990s during his time in the "Queen City" as a member of the Sabres, is this stick used and signed by Hasek. A Sher-Wood P.M.P.G 530 model twig in white and blue with "Hasek 39" stamped over the shaft, the stick retains "The Dominator's" original tape job of white over the handle/knob with additional white having been wrapped around the paddle and blade as well. Sporting a tattered NHL accent sticker over the lower portion of the shaft just above the start of the paddle, the stick shows excellent game-use throughout including puck marks over both sides of the blade tape, paddle and shaft while heavy amounts of red post paint transfer marks are observed over the back side of the shaft as well. Also displaying tears on the forehand side of the blade tape, discolouration on the forehand side of the blade tape, a blue paint transfer mark on the backhand side of the paddle tape and a tear on the forehand side of the paddle tape, it is worth mentioning that some of the white paint has been worn off due to use and the top of the paddle/hand grip has been shaved down to Hasek's liking, likely by Dominik himself. Additionally, there is a dent from a shot on the top side of the shaft right over top of the "Hasek" name stamp. Accented further by the fact that Dominik has signed the top of the paddle on the forehand side with a black marker ink signature that displays well despite a tiny amount of fading from age, a Beckett sticker numbered "H34186" has been added over the topside of the shaft confirming the signature's authenticity.
