Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A veteran of 128 National Hockey League games as a member of the Detroit Red Wings between between 1947-48 and 1950-51, Max McNab would register a total of sixteen (16) goals and nineteen (19) assists for thirty-five (35) total points while also playing in another twenty-five (25) playoff games over that period as well. A Stanley Cup champion with the Red Wings in 1950 after knocking off the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals, offered here is this late-1940s Detroit Red Wings jacket that was worn by McNab during his days as a Red Wing. Made of a canvas like material and featuring a Lippmans Sporting Goods label affixed to the inner collar, a size "46" fly tag is observed below it. Displaying with all the buttons still attached over the front and knitted red and white accents around the collar and cuffs, it is important to note that the white areas of the jacket have turned a cream colour over time. Decorated over the front with a beautiful "Detroit Red Wings" chenille team crest of a varsity style, a crossed American/Canadian flags patch has been added over the left sleeve that features beautifully embroidered details throughout. Remaining in overall astounding condition considering its age, only light wear is observed throughout via the previously mentioned darkening of the white areas and marks/spots throughout the body and sleeves plus some very small amounts fraying/small holes in the knitted parts of the cuffs and collar. Hailing directly from McNab's personal collection, a McNab Family LOA will accompany the piece.
