Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Established for the 1982-83 season as the third home for the franchise that had already called both Kansas City and Colorado home since it was established for the 1974-75 season, the New Jersey Devils have called "The Garden State" home ever since and have brought home Lord Stanley's Cup on three (3) occasions in that time. Offered here, we present this collection of Devils memorabilia that hails from the personal collection of former Devils general manager, Max McNab. Taking a cautious approach to trades during his four seasons at the helm of the Devils between 1983 to 1987, McNab would leave the post when Lou Lamoriello was hired as the Devils’ president. Mr. Lamoriello took over the general manager’s job as well, and Mr. McNab became the team’s executive vice president. He retired from that position, and hockey, in 1994. Paced by a large personalized Devils belt buckle that dates to the 1987-88 season, the silver and gold coloured offering by Crumrine of heavy silver plate on jewellers bronze, based on information seen on the sticker affixed to the reverse, measures approx. 4 1/4" x 3 1/2" and shows "New Jersey Devils" and the Devils logo over the front while being engraved with "1988" and "Maxwell D. McNab" along the bottom edge. Remaining in good condition overall with light wear present throughout from age and use, joining the buckle is a 1986-88 employment agreement on a standard sized piece of paper that has been signed by both McNab and Robert Butera, a business card of McNab's from when he was the Vice President of Hockey Operations, an unbranded Devils wristwatch that sports a gold coloured face with a Devils logo which does not seem to be in working order, a 1982 inaugural game program from October 5th against the Pittsburgh Penguins that remains in excellent condition with light wear to the edges and corners from handling, a "334 Club" pin from the famous snowstorm game against the Calgary Flames on January 22nd, 1987 and other publications and photos from throughout McNab's tenure with the team, all of which appear in good condition and show light-to-moderate wear throughout things like corner and edge wear plus creasing in some instances. A McNab Family LOA will accompany the collection.
