Known mostly by his nickname "Torchy" due to his crop of flamming red hair, Murray "Torchy" Schell would work with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police between 1947 and 1969. Hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs as a Western Canada scout for the club the same year as his retirement from the force, Schell would move to the NHL's Central Scouting Department in 1975 and stay with them until his death. Inducted as part of the inaugural 2024 class onto the Western Canada Professional Hockey Scouts Foundation's Wall of Honour, offered here is this collection of memorabilia from Schell's career. Including a 1959-60 Wakaw Hockey Team trophy presented to Murray by the Saskatchewan Amateur Hockey Association for his role as the team's coach during the team's Bantam "C" winning season. Measuring roughly 6" x 8 1/2" at its longest and widest points, the metal accents have been tacked to the top of a wooden plaque but are loose in spots with both remaining in overall good condition while a stamp from manufacture "Strath Craft Trophies" graces the upper reverse. Also including a pair of jackets worn by Schell during his scouting career, including a Leafs example in blue that has the team logo and his name screened over the left breast and a while one with a Canada patch over the left breast and a "Torspo Hockey Team" patch over the right, both are in good condition while showing light-to-moderate wear (stains, small tears, etc) and evidence of age including a bit of yellowing to the white satin of the "Canada" jacket and wear to the graphics of the Leafs one. Finally, the group is rounded out by various other items including Beehive photos of Jim Morrison, Tod Sloan and Brian Cullen, a 1953-54 Parkhurst card of Tod Sloan, a large Turofsky Studios image of Glenn Hall that has been signed by him with a vintage signature, various newspaper articles and personal photos and other Leafs related magazines and calendars with everything still in good condition but showing varying signs of light-to-moderate wear depending on the item and age (the Beehives have glue on their edges and the Sloan card numerous creases).
