Celebrated by the rival Chicago White Sox despite now playing for the New York Yankees, Frank Chance was honoured by his former crosstown nemesis Sox when the Bombers were in town, on May 17, 1913. "Frank Chance Day" was supported by over 35,000 Chicagoans at Comiskey Park, and featured as part of the festivities the White Sox band along with acrobats, tumblers, jugglers and trick dogs. The Peerless Leader was presented with a pair of giant floral pieces eight feet tall, and a horseshoe of red carnations and roses. This lot offers a rare collection of items from that celebratory event, including a ribbon, pin and ticket stub. First, the 2 1/2" x 5 1/2" blue silk ribbon with gold coloured clip and writing has "Frank Chance Day", "Comiskey Park" and "May-17-1913". It remains in beautiful condition with the material pliable and just a few minor fold lines. The ticket stub has the full date with "Stand Collapsed None Hurt on Our Stand" handwritten on the reverse in pencil, with a few creases present along with a pinhole at the center. Lastly, the 1" pin sports a clean surface with an image of Chance along with the date, with the pin on the reverse intact.
