Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024

With both clubs stacked with immense talent including Hall of Fame members Rogers Hornsby, Gabby Hartnett, Hack Wilson, Kiki Cuyler, Lefty Grove, Mickey Cochrane, Jimmie Foxx and Al Simmons, the 1929 World Series between the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Athletics would go five games. Played at Philadelphia's Shibe Park on Oct 14, 1929, the fifth game would see the Cubbies with a 2-0 lead going into the ninth before the A's scored three including a two-run homer by Mule Haas, with this Philly's first of two consecutive Fall Classic championships. We offer a scarce original ticket stub for the series-clinching Game 5. At 2 1/2" x 3 3/4", the venue, seat, "Game 5" and original purchase price ($5.50, which equates to approx $101.00 in 2024 dollars) are all listed, with a rain check notice on the reverse. The stub exhibits some surface wear including a few creases and a small area of paper loss on the lower left corner. This ticket would certainly serve as the prize within any vintage or World Series ticket collection.
