Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Winning over 100 games, Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics were crowned American League champs in 1929, and met Joe McCarthy's Chicago Cubs in the Fall Classic. Going only five games, with the A's heavily outscoring the Cubbies throughout the series 26-17, this would be the first of back-to-back championships for Philly. This lot offers a rare 1929 Philadelphia Athletics World Series press pin. At approx 1" x 1", the enamel pin features the club's trademark white elephant, with this the first undated World Series press pin ever issued. Condition is a stunning near mint, with the reverse utilizing a threaded post-back. This pin is seen as one of the most elusive and difficult specimens to acquire from the 1920s, and it is the perfect accompaniment piece to the 1929 Chicago Cubs 1929 World Series press pin also offered in this auction.
