Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024

An opportunity to acquire the ultra-desirable rookie card of the one and only “Mr. Hockey,” Gordie Howe presents itself here, with the Red Wings definitely the cream of the crop in the National Hockey League when this little card was discovered in a little Parkhurst box. What we mean is that Detroit’s star right winger in 1951-52 followed up his first Art Ross Trophy with his second consecutive 86-point campaign, this time firing a career-high (to that point) 47 goals to claim his second of four straight scoring titles, before helping the Red Wings show their dominant might in the playoffs, sweeping both the semi-finals (Maple Leafs) and finals (Canadiens) in four straight – longtime hockey observers always considered the ’51-52 Red Wings as one of the most powerful teams of all time. Having been just received back from inspection at PSA, the graders have deemed the card worthy of an "AUTHENTIC" designation but have also determined that it was "ALTERED" in some way. With it unknown as to how exactly the card has been changed from its original state, the desirable cardboard shows quite well despite some wear to the edges and corners that is worth mentioning for accuracy. Retaining good colours over the front and clean surfaces on both the front and back, the image is found to be off-center from top-to-bottom. Housed in an excellent condition PSA holder, don't miss out on this one for your vintage portfolio!
