Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

Playing his junior hockey as a member of both the Kingston Canadiens of the Ontario Hockey League and Cornwall Royals of both the OHL and QMJHL, Scott Arniel would become a key cog in the wheel of the Royals squads that would win back-to-back Memorial Cup championships in 1979-80 and 1980-81, scoring a hat-trick during the 1981 Final against the Kitchener Rangers. A veteran of 730 National Hockey League games after being drafted 22nd overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 1981, offered here is this jersey worn by Arniel circa 1980, during either the 1979-80 and/or 1980-81 seasons. A mesh construction offering made by Wilson, a brand label displaying a size "46" designation is affixed to the inner collar. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a screened on rubberized Royals team logo and matching stars around the collar bones in matching style, the sleeves and verso display Arneil's number "22" in dual layer blue-over-red heat screened rubberized numbers while stripes in matching style appear over both sleeves as well. Void of a nameplate over the upper reverse, as Cornwall's jerseys at the time did not carry them, the garment displays excellent game-wear throughout including team repairs to the collar, front, both sleeves and reverse, with one on the lower reverse being a large patch job. Also sporting battle scars in the form of stick marks, board burns, coloured paint transfers and spot stains throughout, it is also worth noting that there are small holes in the mesh in spots and that the white is no longer bright and crisp due to numerous washings and age. Additionally, a loop style fight strap has been sewn inside the reverse, the interior also shows good pilling as well.
