The first Swiss-born player to hoist Lord Stanley’s mug, David Aebischer achieved the feat while with Colorado in 2001, Aebischer would stick around in Colorado till the trade deadline of the 2005-06 season. A veteran of 214 National Hockey League games after being drafted out of his native Switzerland 161st overall at the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Aebischer would also backstop the Montreal Canadiens and Phoenix Coyotes as well as his homeland in numerous international tournaments, including the Olympic Winter Games in 2002 and 2006. Offered here, we present this stick used by Aebischer as a member of the Avalanche in the era of the early-to-mid-2000s. A Sher-Wood SOP 5030 model with "Aebischer" factory graphics over the upper shaft, the goalie's surname is half-covered by the sticks original tape job of white over the handle/knob while white has been wrapped around the blade as well. Also sporting a large ball of black tape over the area in which the stick would be held, the twig displays excellent game-use throughout including puck marks over both sides of the blade tape and paddle while more are observed over the forehand side of the upper shaft as well. Also showing wear to the edges of the stick's paddle and shaft including wear to the Sher-Wood graphics over the paddle and shaft, additional wear is seen in the form of a few light red post paint transfer marks on the reverse side of the upper shaft. Of note, it is worth pointing out that the blade tape shows small tears/rips on both sides and that it is turning yellow from age.
