Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Referred to by collectors as Cowan Tiles, these 6” by 6” ceramic affairs were reportedly meant to be sold at NHL arenas but speculation is that licensing issues led to them never being released to the public, and despite most apparently being destroyed, a fairly large number has survived. “SCREENART PRODUCTS LTD. – Made in Canada” is printed on the cork backing of each and we offer this group of eleven (11) of the desirable and fragile tiles. Included by team, there are seven (7) tiles of New York; Ballon, Harvey, Hebenton, Horvath, Howell, Langlois and Worsley. There are three (3) for Montreal; Geoffrion, Goyette and Rousseau. And finally, there is one (1) tile for Detroit, the example of Gordie Howe. All in like-new condition with just a couple sporting tiny blemishes, it is also worth noting that all but those of Howe and Langlois coming in their original boxes.
