Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/1/2024
Marking the second time Canadian company Parkhurst had released a set of hockey cards, the 1952-53 assembly would have been considered a set up at the time being larger than the cards released the year prior and with full sized images of players with information gracing the reverse while the checklist held consistent at 105 cards, highlighted by the RC of a young defenceman by the name of Tim Horton. Presented here, we offer this complete set of Parkhurst's 1952-53 hockey release. All technically in a low-grade state due to pieces of tape having been affixed over the front of every one of the 105 cards making up the set, it is also worth noting that some of the cards are sticky along their top and bottom edges due to the tape having been applied in those areas. Without the tape being taken into consideration, the set present in the overall uniform grade range of VG and VG-EX to EX throughout with exceptions being heavily damaged cards #'d 8, 43, 50, 60 and 97. For the key cards, also affected by the tape residue, the would be grade leaders include EX to EX-MT offerings of 14-Harvey (slight corner wear), 53-Delvecchio and 88-Howe while card #87 of Ted Lindsay is seen as being around the scope of EX condition with light corner wear. Also including VG-EX to EX examples of 3-Geoffrion (completely off-center), 10-Moore (light corner wear) and 67-Kelly (light corner wear), card #86 of Terry Sawchuk is seen as being around VG to VG-EX with a wax stain on the reverse. Rounded out by a G to VG copy of 1-Richard (rounded corners), those of 44-Kennedy (crease - shows more on reverse), 51-Armstrong RC (crease on reverse) and 58-Horton RC (crease on back) are all viewed as being around GOOD for their efforts. Of note, the key cards still sport the aforementioned tape and tape residue and the grade ranges listed are as if they didnt have that flaw.
