Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A true find for autograph collectors, this first edition copy of “Down the Ice” from 1934 from the legendary Foster Hewitt features a vintage autograph from its Hall of Fame author. Hewitt, who died in 1985, has placed a bold and dark fountain pen signature on the back of the first page, opposite the title page. There are two other signatures on the title page, along with an old book store price of $50 in pencil. This fabulous early account of the game of hockey is complete and intact, including the dust jacket. While there is some minor creasing and light staining to the dust jacket, the interior pages exhibit just light toning. This is a great chance to own a rare book signed by one of hockey’s icons, who was inducted into the builders' category of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1965.
