Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Finishing in the top spot overall for the first time in a dozen seasons; a single point ahead of Bobby Hull and the Chicago Black Hawks, the Toronto Maple Leafs would defeat both the Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings in the 1962-63 postseason to claim their 11th Stanley Cup championship. Honouring the members of the winning squad, we offer a desirable Toronto Maple Leafs "World Champions" serving tray, accompanied by a trio of 1960s Leafs mini sticks with player photos attached (Tim Horton, Johnny Bower and George Armstrong) along with 1965 Bower Christmas sheet music. Issued by the Canadian chain Dominions, the 10” x 17” tray features the image of hockey's ultimate prize along with the Prince of Wales Trophy, with facsimile signatures of the men who brought the blue and white their second of three consecutive Cup titles engraved, including Tim Horton, Dave Keon and Johnny Bower. The tray exhibits some surface wear and scratches, with residue from tape on the underside. The mini sticks are between 14" to 15 1/2" in length, with each player photo stapled or glued to each respective stick (the Bower stick has a crack to the shaft that was repaired with glue). Lastly, the sheet music shows some wear along with toning.
