Stepping-out from his famous father’s shadow as a three-time finalist for the James Norris Trophy as the NHL’s premier blueliner, Mark Howe saw action in over 1,000 NHL/WHA contests throughout his HOF career, and represented both the US and Canada internationally. Holding a number of NHL records including highest Plus/Minus career by a U.S. born defenseman and most points by a rookie U.S. born defenseman in a season, offered here is this Detroit Red Wings jersey donned by Howe while patrolling the blue line during the 1994-95 season, his last in the National Hockey League. An Air-Knit material garment crafted by CCM, a tattered Maska label along with a size "52" fly tag are affixed to the inner collar, joined by an additional sewn in label from team customizer East Side Sports above. Having had both the CCM and NHL shield logos embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Red Wings team crest that features embroidered details throughout. Additionally, based on the photos the jersey is matched to, the alternate captain's "A" was once in place over the left breast/shoulder but was removed by the team. Having had Mark's number "4" sewn to the sleeves and verso in single layer white tackle twill numerals, "Howe" is spelt out in matching style letters that have been sewn down directly to the material at the upper reverse in a gentle arch. Exhibiting good game-wear despite it's relatively limited use, stick marks are found over the front and both sleeves while the sleeves also show board burns, unrepaired cuts/tears and coloured board paint transfers. Additionally, there is pilling on the exterior front of the jersey, a few popped stitched on the fight strap and light pilling on the interior. Accompanied by a Red Wings "HockeyTown" COA and a MeiGray COR, the jersey also comes with a Resolution Photomatching "Letter of Opinion" that states that while they could not make a conclusive match, they were able to find an image of Howe from the season that is what they call a "Likely Photomatch" to the mark in the "4" of the right sleeve and the tear near the cuff of the left sleeve. At Classic, we found this image to be Getty Image #175319480 (February 4th, 1995 vs Los Angeles) which shows the same things as listed in the included letter of opinion.
