The second Major League Baseball team to make home north of the border, the Toronto Blue Jays played their first game on April 7th, 1977 against the Chicago White Sox at Exhibition Stadium. Battling snow and 35-degree temperatures, the Jays would prevail by a 9-5 score and see Doug Ault become the first franchise hero with his two home runs providing much excitement. Finishing their first Major League season with a record of 54-107, offered here is this inaugural season Toronto Blue Jays jersey worn by Sam Ewing. A Wilson made double-knit polyester offering that has had a brand label displaying a size "44" designation affixed to the inner collar, a swatch tag reading "5 77 2" for the player number, year and set is also sewn onto the same area. A white home jersey decorated with "Blue Jays" in split style letters that have been placed across the front in a gentle arch and sewn down directly to the material of the jersey, a large Blue Jays team crest that sports embroidered details throughout has been added in the middle underneath. Accented with knitted cuffs over the ends of both sleeves and around the collar in a light blue-white-dark blue pattern, Ewing's number "5" is seen over the reverse in a numeral that is in a style matching the letters of "Blue Jays" over the front. Of note, there are some popped seam around the edges of the number on the reverse. Remaining all original with no alterations, the jersey exhibits excellent game-wear in the form of light staining and soiling over the front, reverse and both sleeves, some sweat staining is observed around the sleeve ends and collar while some very light fabric rubbing is found on the interior. Of note, a small blue ballpoint pen line is seen inside the collar that is worth pointing out for accuracy. A beautiful first year offering from the first MLB team to bring the World Series north of the border, don't miss out on this one!
