Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Perhaps the greatest player the game of hockey and the National Hockey League has ever seen, Mario Lemieux needs no introduction and during the 1980s and 1990s was the only one capable of holding a candle with the likes of Wayne Gretzky and his greatness. Having registered a total of 1.883 points per game throughout his illustrious career, "Super Mario" would lead the Penguins to Stanley Cup championships in back-to-back years of 1991 and 1992 while also winning rings with Pittsburgh in 2009, 2016 and 2017 as the team's owner, offered here is this large replica Stanley Cup signed by the 1997 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee that has been accented with numerous annotations as well. Standing at a tall 25", the silver-coloured copy is complete with a black base, NHL shield logo tablecloth, velvet black bag, two pairs of white gloves for handling and a "Keeper of the Cup" certificate. Having signed over the top band of the replica with a gorgeous yellow marker ink signature that displays without issue, Lemieux has added annotations reading "2X SC Champ", "2X Conn Smythe", "3X Hart" and "6X Art Ross" over the subsequent bands in matching yellow marker ink that displays in the same condition as the main autograph does. For the condition of the trophy itself, coming with its original box and having had a plastic bag added over the signed areas of the piece, the trophy shows just some very light handling makes and slight scratches that are worth mentioning for accuracy. A COA from Sign on Sports will accompany the piece.
