Lars-Erik Sjoberg played five seasons with the Winnipeg Jets in the WHA and one with the Jets in the NHL. Sjoberg was working as a scout for the New York Rangers when he died of cancer in 1987. To honour him, the Rangers give out the Lars-Erik Sjöberg Award to the best rookie in the training camp each year. Brian Spencer played with Toronto, New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, and Pittsburg Penguins for several seasons. Spencer had his best offensive production in a Sabres uniform when he scored 41 points (12 goals, 29 assists) in 1974–75. Spencer was fatally shot in a robbery following a crack cocaine purchase in Riviera Beach, Florida. He died in 1988 at age 38. Both the 1972-73 Topps Spencer and 1976-77 O-Pee-Chee Sjoberg cards are sold as signed cards only and the cards were authenticated by JSA/Beckett for the signatures only.
