Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Released during seasons that saw teams with orange in their colour schemes hoist Lord Stanley's coveted Cup at seasons end, the top prize of the hockey world would go to the Philadelphia Flyers in 1974-75 while the Edmonton Oilers would claim it for the 1984-85 campaign. Offered here, we present this lot featuring a starter set of O-Pee-Chee's 1974-75 hockey release as well as a starter set of the company's 1984-85 hockey release as well. Starting with the earlier of the two (2), the 1974-75 cards are found to have 260 of the 396 cards making up the checklist present and accounted for with the lot presenting in the consistent overall condition range of EX-MT to NM for its effort. For the key cards, included are those of 21-Shero (EX-MT to NM - 80-20 centering), 25-Perreault (EX-MT to NM - a pair of factory print marks at the bottom left), 155-Dryden (EX-MT to NM), 162-Checklist (EX-MT to NM - unmarked), 168-McDonald RC (EX-MT to NM), 200-P. Missing the notable cards of 11-Davidson RC, 20-Mikita, 40-Sittler, 54-checklist, 60-Parent, 72-Dionne, 82-Smith, 100-Orr, 130-Orr AS, 135-Clarke AS, 138-Parent AS, 140-Cournoyer, 161-Cherry, 170-T. Esposito, 180-Salming RC, 195-Potvin RC, 261-Bowman and 311-Checklist among others, all of the rest of the cards that are included present in the same condition as those listed above with some sporting centering issues that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
For the 1984-85 grouping, 86 of the 396 cards making up a full set are present and accounted for with those that are included presenting in the condition range of EX to EX-MT overall with most hampered by small corner dings that are keeping them from achieving a higher grade. Including a quartet of "Leaders" cards picturing "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky, the group doesn't include any of the better rookie cards including names such as; 17-Andreychuk, 18-Barrasso, 67-Yzerman, 129-LaFontaine, 185-Gilmour, 259-Chelios and 327-Neely.
