Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
The only heavyweight champion in history to finish his career undefeated, Rocky Marciano won all 49 of his career bouts including 43 by KO. The champ would pass at just 45 years of age when the Cessna 172 that was transporting Marciano and others to Des Moines, Iowa, crashed, on August 31, 1969 (the day before Rocky's 46th birthday). We have a few funerary items from Marciano. Included, there are approx 55 sympathy cards that would have been originally sent with flowers, including from Perry Como and golfer Toney Penna, followed by a "Perpetual Enrollment" certificate from the Seraphic Mass Association in folder (8 1/2" x 10 1/2"), "Perpetual Member in the Mass League" certificate in frame (8" x 10"), "SMA Fathers Perpetual Mass Association Rescript" certificate in folder (7 1/2" x 9 1/4") and "Carmelite Purgatorial Society" certificate in folder (10" x 12"). There is also a newspaper section from 1953 with article about Marciano.
