Released at the beginning of the National Hockey League's 67th season of play, a year in which the Edmonton Oilers, lead by Wayne Gretzky, de-throned the four-time defending Stanley Cup champion New York Islanders four games to one in the Cup finals to win their first of the franchise's five (5) Stanley Cup championships in a seven year period, offered here is this complete set of O-Pee-Chee's 1983-84 hockey release. Paced by a group of nine (9) SGC graded offerings, seven (7) of which are cards of Gretzky, a trio of NM-MT 8's are present within the group, including those of his main series card (#29), record breaker card (#212) and scoring leader card (#217) while the rest of the group includes NM+ 7.5's of Mark Messier's main series card (#39), Gretzky's goal leaders card (#215) and Gretzky's Art Ross Trophy card (#204) plus a NM 7 of Pelle Lindberg (#268). Finished off by EX-NM+ examples of Gretzky's Hart Trophy (#203) and assist leader cards (#216), all the holders remain in excellent condition and show just light handling wear via a few small scratches/scuffs that are worth mentioning for accuracy. For the rest of the set, with all the cards found in their original raw and ungraded form, the group presents in the uniform high-grade condition range of EX-MT to NM throughout though all the cards have a large humidity curve to them. For the notables, those of 22-Gretzky GL, 23-Messier/Gretzky HL, 25-Coffey, 27-Fuhr, 45-Bourque, 138- Francis, 185-Carbonneau RC and 376-Stevens RC are all in the afforementioned EX-MT to NM condition range. With all three (3) checklist cards in a similar condition and unmarked, it is also worth pointing out that the group includes two (2) copies of card #110 picturing Rich Preston and card #112 of Al Secord while all the other star cards and rookies are in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the set.
