Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Comprised mostly of fairly high-grade examples and appearing as though they were only thumbed through and looked at a few times over the years since their initial release is this wonderfully appealing 1984-85 O-Pee-Chee complete set up for grabs here. Released during a year in which the Edmonton Oilers won their second straight Stanley Cup, the group is paced by a group of SGC graded offerings which includes the key rookie cards of Steve Yzerman (NM 7) and Doug Gilmour (NM+ 7.5) as well as the main series specimen of Wayne Gretzky (NM-MT 8). For the rest of the graded cards, "The Great One" is also included via his All-Star (EX-MT 6) and Record Breaker cards (NM+ 7.5) while other rookie cards feature Pat LaFontaine (NM-MT 8) and Tom Barrasso (EX-MT+ 6.5) as well as the Rookie Scoring Leader card of Yzerman (EX-NM 6). With all the holders appearing in good condition, only light handling wear is apparent in the form of light scratches and scuffs. For the rest of the set, found in their original raw ungraded form, the group is seen as being in the overall uniform condition range of EX-MT to NM throughout, including the cards of 1-Bourque, 239-Coffey, 254-Messier, 259-Chelios RC, 327-Neely RC and 374-Gretzky Hart Trophy. Also including six (6) other cards of Gretzky, all three (3) checklist cards are found in an unmarked state and it is worth mentioning that the set's cards have a slight humidity curve/warp to them.
