O-Pee-Chee was back with a 264-card effort for 1986-87 and the Oilers were back on top of the hockey world at season’s end after the Canadiens’ Stanley Cup victory a year earlier. The heroic efforts of playoff MVP Patrick Roy (and his ensuing formidable career) have made Saint Patrick’s rookie card the focal point of OPC’s ’86-87 set, with the example here having earned a grade of NM-MT+ 8.5 after inspection by SGC and sporting beautiful colours, sharp corners, and smooth surfaces that have surely contributed to the high-grade designation. Joined by additional graded cards including the rookie card of Wendel Clark (NM-MT 8) and star cards of Mario Lemieux (EX-MT 6) and Wayne Gretzky (EX-MT+ 6.5), the group of graded specimens is rounded out by the Scoring and Assists Leader cards of "The Great One" that display grades of NM+ 7.5 and NM-MT 8 respectively. Additionally, all the SGC holders remain in excellent condition and show just light examples of handling wear via a few small scratches and scuffs that are worth noting for accuracy. For the rest of the cards in the set, all found in their original ungraded form and appearing in the uniform condition range of EX-MT to NM throughout, the star cards falling into this category include those of 1-Bourque, 9-Vanbiesbrouck RC, 11-Yzerman, 56-Fuhr, 137-Coffey (off-center) and 186-Messier. With the checklist cards both found in an unmarked state and the other stars/rookies in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the set, the assembly is sure to be a positive add to your all-important vintage collection!
