Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

What a chance to score a desirable Howie Morenz card from the attractive 1933 Sport Kings set, with Howie's number 24 example slabbed by the gang at SGC as GD+ 2.5. The back of the card describes the great Morenz as "the $50,000 Hockey Star", and we're confident by today's standards, the crafty and ultra-talented Habs star would be known as the 50 million plus star. The Canadiens have had their share of legendary players over the years, and Howie Morenz remains firmly entrenched as one of the greatest of them all.
Set against an orange background is the image of Montreal Canadiens legend Aurele Joliat, with card #27 in Hamilton Gum's hockey issue scoring a VG 3 at SGC. Joliat was the Hart Trophy winner as league MVP the season that this pleasing card was discovered in a pack of gum. A crowd-pleaser was Joliat, nicknamed "Mighty Atom" and "Little Giant," with the "He is one of the Canadiens' most popular players" part of the write-up here.
