Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/1/2024
Reliable and dependable, Gilles Meloche averaged 46 games a year during his seven seasons with the Minnesota North Stars and in 1981-82 was named the team's most valuable player for the second time. The team's MVP received the Bill Masterton Memorial Award, which honors the memory of the first year Stars forward who died from the head injury he suffered in a NHL game. "William Masterton" is engraved on the handled bowl of this personal trophy which also features a removable lid, two hockey sticks, a North Stars' logo and "Gilles Meloche 1982" on an engraved plate applied to a three-tier wooden base. Standing 13" tall, the silver plated trophy is in very good condition, exhibiting tarnishing, some surface loss to the handles, finial, rim and affixed North Stars logo, and a fairly large spot of silver loss on the bowl. Meloche posted an excellent 26-15-9 won-loss-tie record in '81-82. Originating from his personal collection, an LOA signed by Meloche will accompany this superb piece of North Stars history.
