Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

Setting up shop in the Western International Hockey League beginning with the 1948-49 season and sticking around in their original iteration until the conclusion of the 1957-58 campaign, the Spokane Flyers would win league championships in their first two (2) years of play over the Trail Smoke Eaters before going on to win the Walter Brown Trophy as American Senior hockey champions in both years as well. Led from 1948 until 1952 by Wyatt "Scoop" Bentley, the brother of HOFers Doug and Max, offered here is this beautiful Spokane Flyers WIHL jersey that dates to the 1949-50 season and is attributed to have been worn by Paul Waldner during his time with the team. Void of any tagging affixed to the inner collar or hemline and measuring out to roughly a size "44" after quick check, the front of the stunning red, white and blue coloured garment is decorated with a script crest that reads "Flyers" in dual layer white-over-red tackle twill while the reverse has been accented with the number "17" in matching style numerals. Sporting good evidence of wear and age throughout, including holes in the wool on the lower red stripe on the left sleeve, two more on the front, another on the front of the right shoulder yoke, one just below the back of the collar, and a couple of small holes on the back, including one between the white and red twill numbers, a number of marks are observed over the backside of the left sleeve as well as the lower reverse and a stick mark is present in the team crest. Accompanied by a modern print of the Flyers’ 1949-50 National Senior Cyhampions team photo, don't let this golden age beauty pass you and your all-important collection by!
