Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Premiering on December 12th, 1989 and still going strong, the fanfare and lore around “The Simpsons” is still strong as ever even after 763 episodes and 35 consecutive years of being on air, remaining a nightly ritual for many across the world. The longest-running American animated series, longest-running American sitcom, and the longest-running American scripted primetime television series, both in seasons and individual episodes, The Simpsons has won dozens of awards since it debuted as a series, including 34 Primetime Emmy Awards, 34 Annie Awards and a Peabody Award. Offered here, we present this "Art de Bart-Bart" Matt Groening signed sketch card from the 1993 SkyBox The SImpsons release. Featuring a base set of eighty (80) cards and several different insert sets including temporary tattoos, "Wiggle" cards that produced motion through lenticular optics, acetate cel cards and finally, "Glow in the Dark" cards, the luckiest collectors opening packs of the product pulled one (1) of four hundred (400) "Art DeBart" cards featuring original artwork by Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Featuring, of course, Bart Simpson himself as the main subject, having been penned in black ink and framed by a gold foil border that resembles the Ramly baseball cards of the early 20th century. An exceptionally rare offering that is hand serial numbered "306/400" in black marker ink at the top of the reverse, the card has just been returned from grading at PSA where it has been deemed worthy of the company's perfect by definition mark of GEM MT 10 for both the card and Groening autograph. A POP-1 highest graded example based on the PSA Population Report for PSA/DNA Certified cards, the stunning example is housed in a PSA holder that remains as perfect as the card inside it.
