Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Both the first Caribbean and the first Latin-American player to be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973 after his tragic death on New Year’s Eve 1972, Roberto Clemente would finish his 18-year Major League career with exactly 3000 hits, the last of which came in his final career at-bat of the 1972 season. A two-time World Series champion who won the National League's MVP Award in 1966 and was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973, offered here is this copy of Clemente's 1971 O-Pee-Chee card that has been graded many moons ago by SGC. An extremely condition sensitive set due to the black coloured borders that surround the images of players over the front, this copy of Clemente's cardboard has been deemed worthy of a VG/EX 4 designation and displays with only light amounts of edge wear/chipping around it. Heavily off-center from bottom-to-top, wear is also observed to all four (4) corners with the heaviest amounts of it seen at the bottom two (2) points. Also showing a factory print line that extends down the right edge of the card from the top right corner, excellent colours are retained over the front while the card is housed in an SGC holder that shows some light scratches and scuffs over both sides that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
