Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
"Green Back" variations of Parkhurst's 1955-56 card issue that were available in specially-marked boxes of various Quaker Oats cereals and produced in far lesser quantities than the regular Parkies of that year, a promotion to save and send in cards in exchange for prizes mentioned on the reverse of the boxes also contributes to the sets scarcity and makes them coveted amongst collectors. Very rarely found in large quantities, offered here is this collection of twenty-five (25) of the desirable green back offerings that includes a baker's dozen (13) that have been examined and encapsulated by PSA. Starting with the graded cards, those that have earned designations on their labels include those of 8-Morrison (PSA GOOD 2), 14-Bolton (PSA EX 5), 22-Jackson (PSA VG+ 3.5), 38-Moore (PSA GOOD 2 - "MC" qualifier), 43-Geoffrion (PSA VG-EX 4), 49-Johnson (PSA EX 5), 62-Seibert (PSA GOOD 2), 73-"Richard Tests Lumley" (PSA PR 1) and 78-The Montreal Forum (PSA GOOD 2) while cards deemed to be "AUTHENTIC" by PSA include the likes of 7-Reaume RC (Recoloured), 16-Cahan RC (Recoloured), 21-Chabot (Recoloured) and 45-Harvey (Recoloured). Additionally, also having been graded are the cards of 2-Smith (SGC VG 3) and 64-Reardon RC (KSA NM 7). Moving on to the raw ungraded cards included with the lot, most are found in a low-grade state, though VG to VG-EX examples of 32-Cotton (small dings to top two corners) and 34-Day (light corner wear) are included and lead the way condition wise. Also including the likes of 6-Klukay (G to VG - back faded, damaged), 42-Olmstead (FR to G - crease at top left, off-center on the reverse), 46-Bouchard (PR to FR - multiple creases), 47-MacPherson (G to VG - corners and a light crease that shows only on the reverse), 52-McNeil (GOOD - ding at bottom border and surface wear), 64-Reardon RC (GOOD - faded and corner wear), 66-Reay (PR - cut at bottom border) and 72-"Rocket Roars Through" (GOOD - crease). A great little group of some seldomly seen 1955-56 Parkhurst Quaker Oats cardboard, don't miss out on these for your all-important collection!
With all the holders in generally good condition except for some light scratches and scuffs that are worth pointing out for accuracy, It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
